Degree projects

We view degree projects as a natural and important part of our business, and every year we take on around 10 student workers within a wide range of areas. You are given the chance to convert your theoretical knowledge into practice, at the same time as getting to know a potential employer. We gain assistance with various work duties and get to know potential new employees. A large proportion of our recruitment takes place among new graduates, and many have carried out their degree projects at our company.

Below is a list of our most important operational areas. Click on the area about which you would like to know more. You will also find one or more contact people who can act as sounding boards to discuss a possible arrangement.

Data/IT

The IT department is responsible for the company’s information systems and supplies the company with IT-related services and products. This makes it possible for the business-promoting operations to concentrate on their core activities and on further development.

Based on the goals and visions of the business-promoting operations, as well as our knowledge about IT, we describe an IT strategy that constantly aims to help the operation achieve these goals.

We get involved in the projects at an early stage, and are responsible for making the right choices as regards IT technology and IT strategy. From this perspective, there is often scope for degree project work. This might involve evaluating and/or implementing new technology, or seeing how our existing IT environment can be utilised or combined in order further to improve the IT support for the operation.

We are also responsible for providing support to the existing IT environment. Reviewing and identifying improvements in our support process often produces direct benefits for the operation. This might entail improving the processes to produce higher quality or faster deliveries.

Our third principal area of responsibility is the administration of our infrastructure and our applications. The challenge here lies in delivering accessibility and reliability. The security issue is always important as well, irrespective of whether this relates to preventing virus outbreaks or countering attempted hacking. In recent years we have invested heavily in consolidating our UNIX server park and building smart solutions for storage and file management, and we intend to continue with this in the rest of our infrastructure.

Human Resources

“Our employees are the key to our success. We work together as a global network of knowledge and learning. Our corporate culture is defined by diversity, by open dialogue and mutual respect, and by clear goals and decisive leadership.”

The above expresses one of Siemens’ basic values and hence the foundation of our HR work. HR is part of our business strategy, and we work closely together with Siemens’ business divisions to achieve set goals.

Skills provision is one of our overarching tasks. From the first contact with a school class at Finspång to the day one of our workers retires, everything is about skills in one way or another: making sure that the Company has the skills it needs at any given time to go on developing as a successful player in an ever more competitive market.

As HR consultants with Siemens we are engines of personnel development and organisational development. We initiate, implement and follow up HR projects and activities. We support all levels of management by being integrated into the business and offering the HR perspective on large and small issues. It goes without saying that we also provide support for workers in various matters.

The HR consultant’s duties include: contacts with schools at various levels, recruiting, skills development including leadership development, career planning, successor planning, wellness care, rehabilitation, pay determination etc.

We are interested in keeping up our contacts with academe, in combining theory and practice and in keeping abreast of developments in HR. So if you are embarking on a future in Human Resources, we may well be interested in talking with you about a possible thesis or dissertation project.
